Attending class is vital to your academic success.
Learn to manage your time.
Attend all home football games.
Grades are most important; if you miss one night out it won’t matter.
Go to Get on Board Day to find out about student organizations.
Moderation is the key to surviving college.
Try to wash your sheets, towels, and clothes at least once every two weeks.
Use the Center for Teaching and Learning and the English Writing Center as frequently as possible.
Learn how to manage your money.
Introduce yourself to your teachers and meet with them on a regular basis.
Use 348-RIDE if you need a ride around campus at night.
You'll learn a lot about yourself and about the world by interacting with many different kinds of people here.
Try not to register 8:00a.m. classes if you think they will be hard to attend.
Don’t procrastinate.
Start building a resume now.
Don’t be forced into doing anything you don’t want to.
Call you parents frequently and not just to ask for money.
Social activities may be important to you, but always remember that your primary purpose for being here is academic achievement.
Take time to relax and to exercise. We have one of the finest Rec facilities in the South.
Do community service. It helps you and the community.
Set your alarm before going out at night.
Know when to register for class, meet with your advisor, and pay tuition--all bills are sent via e-mail.
Don’t ever drink and drive. It’s a stupid thing to do and, it may be the last thing you ever do.
Be yourself. Choose your own path.
Take advantage of all the free stuff and events the University puts on. Your fees are paying for it.
Apply for new scholarships all of your years in college.
If you are involved in a campus organization stay involved… Don’t fade away.
Take responsibility for your actions.
Place you alarm clock away from arms reach so you that you will have to get up to turn it off.
You will have to study harder than you did in high school.
The Alabama Control Board (ABC) will be on the Strip looking for minors. If you are caught, you will get a huge fine and other possible consequences.
Avoid getting a credit card like avoiding the plague. It is easy for college students to get into major debt due to easy credit card access.
Know where you can and cannot park on campus. The price of parking tickets increases the more you get.
Don’t walk by yourself at night. Stay in well-lit areas.
Think twice before ordering pizza for all of your friends on your ACT card at two O’clock in the morning.
Always have change for a phone call.
Before you declare a major, do your research to determine whether it's a good fit for you.
Take your harder classes in the spring.
Party only on the weekends if you want better grades.
Midterms and finals should be taken very seriously. Study way ahead of time because they make up a large portion of your grade.
Try soft-serve ice cream on Burke Hall waffles for a tasty dessert.
Make your voice heard and vote in any election.
Find out about opportunities to for studying abroad. The University provides many opportunities.
Attending career fairs may expose you to a job opportunity that you never knew existed.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Chances are you aren’t the only one who wants to know the answer.
